Yesterday marked an important step for our Smokefree UK campaign, as Members of the Senedd (MSs) voted to apply the Tobacco and Vapes Bill to Wales through a legislative consent motion.
This vote is one of the final steps towards creating the first smokefree generation in Wales and across the UK. Once the Bill completes its final stage in Westminster, it will mean that anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 will never be legally sold tobacco in the UK.
Alongside campaigners and partners, we have supported the Tobacco and Vapes Bill in all four nations of the UK. Scotland and Northern Ireland have already passed their legislative consent motions, and the Bill has now been approved by the House of Commons in Westminster.
